Governments of Moldova and Romania are attending a joint meeting in Chisinau and will subsequently sign a number of bilateral agreements.

Prime Minister of Moldova, Natalia Gavrilita, noted that the joint meeting the two countries’ governments is an incredibly rare event on the diplomatic agenda of Moldova, and she is glad that in the 10 years since the first joint meeting of the Cabinets of Ministers in Iasi, the governments of Moldova and Romania meet for the fifth time. Moldovan Prime Minister noted that Romania has always supported the citizens of Moldova, regardless of the political changes of recent years. “But now there is a historic opportunity. Both in Bucharest and in Chisinau, there are governments with the prospect of long-term stability that is providing the opportunity to include in the agenda long-term projects related, among other things, to ensuring energy security,” said Natalia Gavrilitsa. She recalled that at the end ofthe last year, the foreign ministers of the two countries, in the presence of Presidents Maia Sandu and Klaus Iohannis, signed an updated Roadmap on priority areas of cooperation between the two countries, and no one believed that in just two months we would be able to announce that many of the commitments made already are becoming a reality. “We promised that we would build new bridges, physical and virtual, between the two banks of the Prut, and now we keep our word. This significant dynamics in our relations reflects the concern of the governments of the two countries to correlate the agenda with the interests of citizens,” said Natalia Gavrilita. According to her, probably the best news today will be the signing at the end of the meeting of the Intergovernmental Agreement on the implementation of the program of technical and financial assistance based on 100 million euros gratuitous financial assistance provided by Romania to Moldova. “This is a very generous tool that will be used by citizens throughout Moldova. We want to improve the quality of life, especially in rural areas, and these funds can be used, among other things, for the development of local infrastructure, the modernization of roads, schools, kindergartens, and water supply networks. These investments will become a real engine for the economic development in Moldova, will create new jobs, and people will begin to believe again in the prospect of building a bright future here, at home, in Moldova,” Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova said. According to her, part of the grant money will go to projects for the restoration of cultural institutions, support for the media. Among other agreements to be signed today, she singled out the signing of an agreement on reducing tariffs for roaming and international calls with Romania, which will be the first document of its kind signed with an EU country. Natalia Gavrilita also stressed that an agreement would be signed on the construction of a road bridge in Ungheni. // 11.02.2022 – InfoMarket
