The European Union will support three new projects in Moldova for a total of 36 million euros

This was reported by the press service of the government, noting that the launch of these projects was announced today at a festive event organized by the Team Europe platform, the purpose of which is to support the EU partner countries in the fight against the pandemic. The event was attended by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, as well as the EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, ambassadors of the EU member states, representatives of the EBRD and EIB, key partners of the Team Europe initiatives. In her speech, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita thanked Team Europe for its continuous support to Moldova in overcoming the consequences of the pandemic and improving the quality of life of its citizens. "Team Europe" means unity, solidarity and concrete support for our country from the EU and member states, as well as financial institutions. We were the first European country to use the COVAX mechanism and the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, having received more than 1 million doses of vaccines. At the same time, EU member states such as Romania, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Germany have provided protective equipment, medical devices and equipment worth more than € 20 million. These donations have saved many lives" - said Natalia Gavrilita. The Prime Minister spoke about the importance of EU assistance for the national economy, noting the EU Economic Recovery Plan for Moldova in the amount of up to 600 million euros. She noted that the European Commission has already allocated 50 million euros in emergency macro-financial assistance to support efforts to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Moldova. Another 36.4 million euros is gratuitous assistance to increase the resilience of the system health care, economic recovery support, police reform and COVID-19 pandemic response. The Prime Minister also highly appreciated the EU's support for Moldova to overcome the gas crisis. “This week we signed a € 60 million grant agreement in Brussels that will directly support vulnerable consumers to cope with rising energy prices. These funds will also be used to take additional measures of economic and social support, as well as to strengthen energy security and increase energy efficiency, ”said the head of the Cabinet. The three projects launched by Team Europe have a total budget of € 36 million.
