Moldova signed contracts with the EIB and EBRD to finance the project "Energy Efficiency in Moldova" worth over 60 million euros.

The signing ceremony of these documents in Brussels was attended by Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Deputy Director General for Neighborhood Policy and European Commission enlargement negotiations Katarína Mathernová. In particular, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu and representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank signed a contract on financing the project “Energy Efficiency in Moldova”. For the implementation of this project, the EIB and EBRD will allocate loans to Moldova of 30 million euros each. In addition, a grant of 2.8 million euros will be provided from the European Commission's Neighborhood Investment Platform and the Technical Assistance Trust Fund for the Eastern Partnership countries. Thanks to this project, a national energy rehabilitation program for buildings across the country will be launched in Moldova, with an emphasis on social facilities. The beneficiaries of the project will be state institutions of national importance, in particular, republican hospitals, as well as institutions of local and municipal importance - kindergartens, schools, city and district hospitals. Thus, just by improving the energy efficiency of hospital buildings, more than 250 thousand patients will receive better services annually, and the state will save at least 5.2 million euros. As InfoMarket agency reported earlier, the “Energy Efficiency in Moldova” project is aimed at introducing a national program to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings in Moldova. These are buildings of central public and local authorities characterized by low energy efficiency due to old construction and an acute lack of investment in consolidation and energy efficiency improvements during their use. It is envisaged that for the implementation of the mentioned project, Moldova will receive a loan from the EIB of 30 million euros. Another loan of 30 million euros for the implementation of the project will be allocated to Moldova by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The project implementation period is 4 years (2022-2025). The main beneficiaries of the project will be state-owned buildings of national and local importance, mainly of a social nature, mainly hospitals and medical institutions of republican importance, as well as schools and kindergartens. The list of hospital institutions of republican significance that will be included in the project include: Institute of Emergency Medicine, Institute of Cardiology, Institute of Oncology, Institute of Mother and Child, Republican Clinical Hospital, Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Republican Center for Medical Diagnostics, Balti Clinical Hospital, Clinical Psychiatric hospital, Center for the rehabilitation of the elderly and disabled SPERANȚA. Thanks to the implementation of the project, citizens will have access to better services. The objectives of the project are to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, thermal modernization of buildings, providing for the installation of modern energy-efficient equipment, heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, the introduction of lighting and heat distribution systems, the use of renewable energy sources, if technically possible, etc. // 15.12.2021 — InfoMarket
