
The EU will provide financial support for the implementation of the reform program in Moldova, and the parties will strengthen bilateral cooperation, including in the field of security and defense.
This was stated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, after a meeting in Brussels with the Prime Minister of Moldova, Natalia Gavrilita, and the head of the Foreign Ministry, Nicu Popescu. The Vice President of the European Commission noted that the EU strongly supports the ambitious reform program of the Moldovan government, especially in the areas of the rule of law, reform of the justice system and the fight against corruption, saying that it is very important that these reforms are sustainable and bring the expected results. According to him, the European Commission pledges financial support for their implementation, and all EU institutions will continue to be committed to political association and economic integration with Moldova in accordance with the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. The parties also discussed further ways of cooperation in the field of security and defense - a very important area for Moldova - and agreed to resume bilateral consultations in order to identify more specific areas for further cooperation. The meeting participants also touched upon the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. “We continue being ready to facilitate a comprehensive, peaceful and sustainable settlement process on the basis of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, within its internationally recognized borders, with a special status for Transnistria,” said Josep Borrell. // 28.09.2021 - InfoMarket
