The previous record indicator of the internal public debt of Moldova was registered at the end of February 2021, when it amounted to 30 billion 722.1 million lei. Thus, in February, the internal public debt increased by 787.8 million lei (+ 2.6%), and in general, in January-March 2021, the internal public debt of Moldova increased by 2 billion 274.3 million lei (+ 7.8%), amounting to 31 billion 509.9 million lei at the end of March 2021 against 29 billion 235.6 million lei at the end of December 2020. According to the Ministry of Finance, such a change in the domestic public debt occurred due to an increase in the issue of government securities in the primary market. In particular, as of the end of March 2021, the debt on state securities issued in the primary market amounted to about 16 billion 828.43 million lei, which is 2 billion 267.4 million lei more (+ 15.6%) than at the end of 2020 (14 billion 561.03 million lei), and its share accounted for 53.4% of the total volume of the domestic public debt. At the same time, the debt on bonds issued for the execution by the Ministry of Finance of payment obligations arising from state guarantees dated November 17, 2014 and April 1, 2015, at the end of March 2021 amounted to 12 billion 611.2 million lei, unchanged, in comparison with the situation at the end of 2020. It accounted for 40% of the total amount of the internal public debt of Moldova at the end of March 2021.The debt on converted government securities at the end of March 2021 amounted to 2 billion 070.27 million lei, having increased in comparison with the situation at the end of 2020, by 6.88 million lei (+ 0.3%) and amounting to 6.6% of the total amount of the domestic public debt at the end of March 2021. According to the Ministry of Finance, in March 2021 the weighted average interest rate for government securities sold at auctions amounted to 4.98% (for types of government securities: 91 days - 3.35%, 182 days - 4.93%, 364 days - 5.49%, 2 years - 5.48%, 3 year - 5.85%, 5 years - 6.1%), which is 0.47 percentage points less than in the same period of the previous year.
