Parliament of Moldova adopts in the first reading a draft law on compensation of electricity tariffs for household consumers during the state of emergency.

It provides for covering from the budget part of the electricity bill for all household consumers in Moldova for 2 months - April and May, the period of the state of emergency in the country, and the amount of compensation will be 428 lei - 214 lei per month. It is planned that the Ministry of Finance will transfer the necessary funds for compensation in equal amounts to the accounts of electricity suppliers. In general, over 532.9 million lei will be required to pay compensation. The bill was developed as a social measure to support the population in the context of the announced state of emergency throughout Moldova from April 1 to May 31. One of the authors of the bill, PSRM deputy Petru Burduja, noted that this initiative will affect more than 1 million 450 thousand citizens, and the approximate total cost was calculated based on the actual volume of electricity consumption by citizens in February and March. “It is proposed that the costs of electricity consumption of all citizens of Moldova, consumers from among individuals, should be covered by the budget for the entire period of the state of emergency. Many citizens are now forced to lose their jobs; they have limited opportunities to pay for utilities, including electricity. Therefore, we believe that with this initiative we will support citizens,” said the MP. The PSRM faction proposed to allocate funds to cover the electricity bills of all households by reducing the cost of maintaining state institutions and structures. // 16.04.2021 - InfoMarket.
