Moldova’s industrial production in January-February 2021 decreased by 3.3% relative to the same period in 2020.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, without giving value terms data. According to the department, in February 2021 the volume of industrial production increased by 2.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. In general, in January-February 2021, relative to the same period of 2020, production volumes in the extractive industry decreased by 38.5%, and in the processing industry - decreased by 8.8%. According to the NBS, in the first 2 months of 2021, food industry enterprises reduced overall production by 18.6% versus the same period in 2020. Production of beverages decreased 7.6%, and production of textiles increased 13.5%. Clothing output fell 10.6%. As far as it is concerned the tanning and leather finishing; production of suitcases, bags, harness and saddlery; dressing and dyeing of fur, the decline was 7.7%. Wood processing and production of products from wood and cork, except for furniture; production of articles made of straw and other plant materials for plaiting increased 43.6%. Production of paper and paper products decreased 6.6%, while production of chemicals and chemical products decreased 10.3%. The output of pharmaceutical products and pharmaceuticals increased 17.2%, while the output of rubber and plastic products decreased by 13.5%. In the metallurgical industry, production increased 9.7%. The output of metal structures and products, except for machinery, equipment and installations increased 16.5%, computers, electronic and optical products 45.6%. The production of electrical equipment decreased 28.3%, machinery and equipment decreased 4.5%, cars, trailers and semi-trailers 25.3%. Furniture production increased 16.8%. In the section repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment, the growth was 8.4%, in the production and supply of electric and heat energy, gas, hot water – the growth was 16.1%.
