The EU will provide Moldova with 50 million euros as the second tranche of emergency macro-financial assistance once mutually agreed conditions have been fulfilled.

This was stated by the President of the European Council Charles Michel at a press conference in Chisinau with Moldovan President Maia Sandu. Charles Michel recalled that our country had previously received the first 50 million euros tranche of this extraordinary macro-financial assistance from the EU. He stressed that the European Union is a reliable partner of Moldova and the largest trading partner and market for Moldovan exports. Over the past 10 years, the EU has provided Moldova with grants worth more than 1 billion euros, and more than 1000 projects have been implemented throughout the country. “The European Investment Bank offers to finance important projects in the energy sector and for SMEs, and I'm pleased that Werner Hoyer is here with us today,” said the President of the European Council. He reaffirmed the EU's unwavering solidarity to help Moldova fight the COVID-19 crisis and overcome its socio-economic consequences, and stressed that the EU has provided 108 million euros for the supply of protective equipment, strengthening the health system and supporting socio-economic recovery. The President of the European Council said that the EU is now focusing its efforts on accelerating vaccination and on February 27 the first batch of vaccine was delivered from Romania with EU support. “Moldova also benefits from vaccine distribution under the COVAX Facility, which Team Europe has strongly supported. We expect more vaccines to arrive in the next few days. Our partners' preparedness to distribute vaccines is also key. To boost this, we are stepping up our support for the deployment of vaccines, with two WHO programmes,” said Charles Michel. // 01.03.2021 - InfoMarket.
