The total land area of Moldova is 3.38 million hectares, almost 2/3 of them are agricultural land.
The government approved at a meeting on June 21 the Land Cadastre as of January 1, 2023. According to the document, out of the total land area in Moldova, 2.39 million hectares, (70% of the total), were agricultural land, 0.4 million hectares (13 %) - lands of the forest fund, 0.3 million hectares (9%) - lands of settlements, etc. Land owners in Moldova are 2.3 million owners. More than 56% of the land is privately owned: 2.1 million owners who own 1.9 million hectares of land. More than 23% of the lands (784.2 thousand ha) are in public ownership, and about 21% are lands of administrative-territorial units (696.4 thousand ha). Compared to 2022, land areas in the Straseni district have slightly decreased due to the renewal of the boundaries of some administrative-territorial units in the process of implementing the mass registration and land valuation project.
