
In 2022, the number of millionaires in Moldova increased by 20% year on year.
According to the head of the State Tax Service (STS), Petru Rotaru, at a press conference on Tuesday, 4,810 individuals earned more than 1 million lei each last year. Compared to the previous year, the number of millionaires has increased by 803 people. In total, millionaire individuals last year declared income of 17.69 billion lei (+38% compared to the previous year) and paid income tax in the amount of 1.45 billion lei, or 1.7 times more than in the previous year. The maximum income of 1 person in 2022 was 43.8 million lei. According to STS, the youngest millionaire in Moldova is 19 years old, and the oldest - 82 years. Millionaires are most in the age group 40-49 years - 1,501 (+24.7% compared to the previous year). Next come millionaires in the age group 30-39 years - 1,099 people (+16.6%), 50-59 years - 1,057 people (+15.1%), 60-82 years - 979 people (+28.8%), aged 18-29 years - 174 people (-5%). According to STS, about 73% of millionaires declared revenues of 1 to 3 million lei, 15.7% - from 3 million to 6 million lei, 6% - from 6 million to 11 million lei, 5.2% - received revenues over 11 million lei. At the same time, the richest millionaires with incomes over 11 million lei (251 people) paid the largest amount of income tax among millionaires - 6.5 billion lei (37%).
