Moldova will introduce a mechanism for charging a fee for the use of roads by vehicles temporarily registered for evidence.

Corresponding amendments to the Moldovan Tax Code were considered by the government at a meeting on Wednesday. They were initiated by a legislative initiative, which has to be approved by the parliament. In particular, according to the project, within 90 days from the date of registration of vehicles temporarily registered for evidence, the amount of the fee will be 25% of the basic rates of the fee for the use of roads by vehicles registered in the country. After this period, the standard fee will apply. According to the authors of the project, the application of new norms will ensure that the owners of temporarily registered vehicles will fulfill their obligations to pay the fee for the use of roads of RM. It should be noted that at this stage no special norms are foreseen for them, therefore, 90% of such entities evade the payment of this fee. At the same time, drivers of vehicles temporarily registered for evidence will be allowed to conclude insurance contracts for insurance periods of up to 12 months, but not less than 15 days. These changes will be introduced in the law on compulsory motor liability insurance for damage caused by vehicles. The government proposed to increase the minimum insurance period to 30 days and also gave a number of other recommendations, generally supporting the bill. // 01.12.2022 - InfoMarket
