In Moldova, the VAT rate reduced from 12% to 6% for the HoReCa sector will come into force on October 1, 2021.
The parliament approved the relevant amendments to the legislation in two readings at a meeting on Thursday. It's about amendments to the Law on special taxation of services carried out within the framework of activities referred to section I of the Classifier of Economic Activities of Moldova, which were proposed by the Chairman of the Commission on Economy, Budget and Finance, a deputy from the Action and Solidarity Party faction (PAS) Dumitru Alaiba. It should be noted that the aforementioned law providing for the reduction of VAT for certain types of economic activities, including the HoReCa sector, for the period of the state of emergency and public health emergency, was published on May 21 this year and was supposed to enter into force on November 21, 2021. Alaiba proposed to accelerate the introduction of these tax incentives for the HoReCa sector, taking into account the significant losses incurred by companies in this industry due to the restrictions imposed in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in the context of the introduction from 10 September on the territory of the country of a health emergency. Thus, the reduced VAT rate of 6% from October 1 of this year will apply to food and beverages (excluding alcoholic beverages) within the framework of activities referred to Section I of the Classifier of Economic Activities of Moldova, as well as to accommodation services, regardless of on the level of comfort. It is planned that in the future other measures will be taken to support HoReCa enterprises.// 23.09.2021 — InfoMarket.
