An economic policy expert from IDIS Viitorul presented these figures on his weekly program. According to his estimates, on an annualized basis as of the end of the second quarter of 2026, total exports of goods and services will amount to $7.52 billion, an increase of $901 million compared to 2022 (+13.6%). At the same time, exports of Moldovan goods decreased by $229 million, while exports of services increased by $1.13 billion. In 2025, exports of goods fell to a historic low of 18.6% of GDP, while exports of services reached a record high of 15.9% of GDP. Veaceslav Ionita emphasized that, for the first time, exports of services exceeded exports of goods in the second quarter of 2025. In the first half of 2026, exports of services grew by 22% and totaled approximately $1.73 billion. The largest categories remain IT services, with an annual volume of about $890 million, and transportation services—$693 million. Together, they accounted for approximately $1.58 billion (45% of service exports). Of the total $667 million increase in service exports over the past 12 months, IT accounted for 23.9%, business services for 20.4%, and together with air transport, these sectors accounted for 53.2% of the growth. Exports of educational services reached $136.3 million on an annual basis, increasing by 18.7%, while medical services rose by 19.5% (about $7 million). The main medical services exported are dentistry, cosmetic surgery, and in vitro fertilization. The trade surplus in services exceeded $1 billion for the first time in 2025. The service sector is becoming one of the main opportunities for Moldova's economy. According to an expert, the data presented shows that Moldova is strengthening its position in foreign markets not only through the export of goods but also through the export of high-value-added services. "Developments in the fields of information technology, business services, transportation, education, and healthcare demonstrate that the services sector has significant potential for growth and could become one of the main pillars of Moldovan exports in the coming years," emphasized Veaceslav Ionita. // 09.10.2026 — InfoMarket.
