The National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) and the Moldovan Ministry of Energy have launched an awareness campaign to promote the use of solid biofuels for heating in the public and private sectors. The campaign will run from August 2026 through March 2027 and will be part of the preparations for the 2026–2027 heating season. Its goal is to reduce the country's dependence on natural gas, mitigate the impact of price fluctuations on international markets, and support local biomass production. As part of the campaign, seminars and consultations will be held for public and private institutions, enterprises, and other consumers, and practical guides on the selection, installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment have been prepared. Currently, more than 300 solid biofuel-fired boiler rooms with a total capacity of about 70 MW have been installed in Moldova's government institutions. They are capable of replacing up to 20 million cubic meters of natural gas annually, which corresponds to approximately 2% of the country's total natural gas consumption. Several thousand additional lower-capacity systems are in operation in the private sector. Meanwhile, there are 45 local producers and suppliers of solid biofuel operating in Moldova.
