European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath said this at a meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean. According to the EU's permanent representation in our country, the parties discussed Moldova's accession to the European Union and EU support in the areas of justice and fundamental rights, including within the framework of the Growth Plan for Moldova. At the same time, Michael McGrath stressed the importance of strengthening judicial reforms, which should be based on a rigorous review process to ensure the quality and integrity of the system. According to him, the €1.9 billion Growth Plan for Moldova will play a crucial role in supporting key reforms, including in the areas of justice and the fight against corruption. It will also help stimulate the economy and create a favorable investment climate. At the same time, during a bilateral meeting with Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, Michael McGrath noted that the European Union will continue supporting Moldova on its path towards European integration. He also welcomed the Moldovan authorities' firm commitment to strengthening the rule of law, in particular through reforms in the areas of justice and the fight against corruption, in the context of the country's European course. During his two-day visit to Moldova, the European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection also met with members of the external evaluation (vetting) commissions for judges and prosecutors. These commissions are called upon to play a crucial role in ensuring that only people of high integrity hold senior positions in the judiciary.
