A bilateral screening meeting on Chapter 17, “Economic and Monetary Policy,” will be held in Brussels on May 21as part of the negotiations on Moldova's accession to the EU
According to the Ministry of Finance, a simulation of this meeting was held last week at the Ministry, with the Moldovan side presenting materials. The event was attended by members of the working group responsible for Chapter 17. During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov highly appreciated the participants' presentations and offered recommendations aimed at supporting their compliance with EU legislation. The aim of these preparatory activities is to ensure a consistent and reasoned approach within the framework of bilateral screening. Bilateral screening is a detailed assessment of the compatibility of national and European legislation. Chapter 17 covers economic and monetary policy and is important for identifying the measures needed to harmonize Moldova's legislation with that of the European Union. The process includes the presentation by national authorities of the current situation and progress achieved, as well as action plans to address identified gaps. For Moldova, this review is an important step in the European integration process, providing an opportunity to assess the degree of compliance of national economic and monetary policy with European standards. This exercise also allows for the identification of areas where legislative and institutional adjustments are needed to ensure macroeconomic stability and economic convergence with the European Union. During the meeting in Brussels, the Ministry of Finance delegation will present in detail the measures taken and planned to ensure full compliance with the requirements of Chapter 17. At the same time, European experts will provide feedback and recommendations on how to continue the process of legislative and institutional harmonization. // 12.05. 2025 — InfoMarket
