Inflation in Moldova amounted to 0.11% in October 2020; in general, since the beginning of the year, a 0.09% deflation was registered, and annual inflation (over the last 12 months) was 1.56% in October 2020.
Such data are provided by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). It should be noted that this dynamics of indicators is due to the fact that during the 4 previous reporting months Moldova registered deflation, and in June, July, August and September, average prices decreased, compared to the previous month. In October last year, 0.87% inflation was recorded in Moldova. Inflation in January-October 2019 was 5.8%, while annual inflation in October 2019 was 6.76%. As noted by the NBS, the consumer price index in October 2020, compared to September 2020, increased by an average of 0.11% against the background of an increase in prices for non-food products - by 0.33%, as well as an increase in tariffs for services provided to the population by 0.05%, while food prices also decreased by 0.05%. According to official statistics, in particular, in October 2020, compared to the previous month, prices for fresh fruits decreased by 4.3% (in particular, citrus fruits - by 14.3%, exotic fruits - by 8.8%, grapes - by 6.7%, pome fruit - by 3.9%), potatoes - by 3.5%, fresh vegetables - by 0.3% (in particular, cabbage - by 16.9%, eggplants - by 10.3%, carrots - by 9.6%, garlic - by 4.8%, dried onions - by 4.7%). Prices for poultry and cereals fell by 0.3%. At the same time, prices increased in the reporting period: stone fruit - by 26.3%, tomatoes - by 18.9%, chicken eggs - by 11.8%, cucumbers - by 7%, zucchini - by 6.9%, sunflower oil - by 4.4%, corn flour - by 1%, milk and dairy products - by 0.8% (in particular, cottage cheese - by 1.3%, whole milk - by 1.1%, sour cream - by 0.9%), mutton - by 0.5%, canned vegetables - by 0.4%, beef, smoked meats, boiled sausages, offal, tea and honey - by 0.2% in all cases. In October, compared to September 2020, prices for non-food products increased by 0.33%. More noticeably (up to 5.9%) prices for winter clothing and footwear, firewood, medicines, sanitary and hygiene items, cigarettes went up. At the same time, prices for summer clothes and shoes, sporting goods, carpets and rugs, kitchen utensils and household items, refrigerators and freezers, washing machines, air conditioners, household chemicals, cleaning and detergents, and coal decreased by up to 2%. An analysis of tariffs for services rendered to the population shows that in October 2020, compared to September, tariffs increased for: apartment rent by students - by 2%, hotel services - by 1.1%, services for keeping children in a nursery and kindergartens - by 0.8%, medical laboratory services - by 0.6%, accommodation in student dormitories - by 0.4%.
