This was stated by Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugen Osmochescu, commenting on the National Bank of Moldova's recent decision to increase the base rate applied to key short-term monetary policy operations by 1.5 percentage points, from 5% to 6.5% per annum. He explained that the National Bank's increase in the base rate is aimed specifically at curbing so-called imported inflation, which is essentially caused by rising prices outside Moldova.
