In their report on Moldova's progress towards EU membership, MEPs welcomed the Moldovan government's sustained progress on EU-related reforms, despite significant internal and external challenges. The European Parliament welcomed the opening of accession negotiations for the first cluster, "Core Values," which includes the judiciary and fundamental rights, freedom and security, and financial control. The report notes that Moldova has made significant progress in reforming the justice sector and in preventing and combating corruption. The European Parliament also emphasized the importance of continuing to combat the influence of oligarchs in political, economic, and media life as a key priority for promoting Moldova's European integration. MEPs also welcomed Moldova's deepening economic integration within the EU single market and expressed support for further steps toward gradual sectoral integration and ambitious, sustainable trade liberalization. Regarding energy, the European Parliament welcomed the Moldovan government's plan to gain independence from Russian energy resources. Regarding Transnistria, the report reaffirms the European Parliament's long-standing commitment to Moldova's territorial integrity and the peaceful resolution of the conflict on the Dniester. MEPs stated that Russia must withdraw all military personnel, equipment, and ammunition from the Transnistrian region. The report on Moldova was adopted by 505 votes in favor, 115 against, and 45 abstentions. Acting Prime Minister Eugen Osmochescu noted that the adoption of the annual report on Moldova, which commends reforms and calls for the immediate reopening of all negotiating groups, is a sign of confidence in our country and the authorities' efforts to build a European state. According to him, this decision is an important political signal for Moldova and opens up concrete prospects for deepening relations with the EU. "By moving closer to the European Union, Moldova benefits from expanded opportunities to attract investment, modernize infrastructure, develop the business environment, create new jobs, and gain greater access to European funding and cooperation programs. Compliance with European standards helps strengthen the rule of law, combat corruption, and enhance the resilience of state institutions," he noted. // 08.07.2026 — InfoMarket
