Moldova’ legislation and practices in wastewater collection and treatment to be harmonized with EU standards

To this end, the government approved a Roadmap for the implementation of the EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive, which aims to protect public health and the environment from the impact of untreated urban wastewater. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Roadmap approved by the Cabinet of Ministers includes necessary actions and interventions, responsible bodies and deadlines for the fulfillment of monitoring obligations and reporting to the European Commission on the progress of implementation of requirements related to wastewater treatment. The practical implementation of the Roadmap measures will contribute to the improvement of wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure at the national level, including the construction and rehabilitation of necessary treatment facilities. It will also contribute to the protection of water resources and the environment from pollution caused by uncontrolled discharges, and will help create a healthy environment for all citizens by reducing the risks associated with water pollution. The Roadmap approved by the Government represents an important step in harmonizing national legislation and practices with EU standards, in the context of the country's accession to the European Union and the country's sustainable development. //13.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
