Moldova presented in Brussels economic strategies for sustainable European integration and building a functional market economy

The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization reported this, noting that representatives of the ministry and other ministries and state institutions took part in Brussels in a bilateral screening session on the theme “Economic criterion marking an important stage on the country's path towards European integration”. This event emphasizes Moldova's commitment to develop a functional market economy, so that more companies and citizens can benefit from the opportunities of the single European market. The meeting consisted of 2 main parts. The first one, on the theme “Existence of a functional market economy”, addressed the issues of macroeconomic stability, functioning of the commodity markets, financial market and labor market. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov said that the Moldovan authorities strive to build a functional market economy, which is one of the Copenhagen criteria. The country is supported in this endeavor by the European Union, which last week announced the Economic Growth Plan for Moldova. This plan will significantly contribute to the economic development of our country, the improvement of living standards and its integration into the European Union. “Through this financial assistance package, the EU reiterates its commitment to support Moldova on its accession path, to promote the necessary reforms and to boost the country's economic competitiveness,” Cristina Gherasimov stressed. The second part of the meeting, entitled “Ability to face competitive pressures and market forces in the Union,” included discussions on education, innovation, infrastructure and the structure of the business environment. Veronica Arpintin, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization and chair of the working group on economic criteria, said that increasing productivity in Moldova depends on the transformation of our economy - through the transition of the workforce to more efficient sectors, the implementation of new technologies, better education and the integration of Moldovan companies into regional markets. “To realize this potential, we need to invest in infrastructure, education, management and attract foreign investments in order to create a competitive and dynamic market,” she stressed. According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, this bilateral screening is an important step in Moldova's European integration negotiations underlining RM's firm commitment to reforms and the EU's continued support. // 15.10.2024 - InfoMarket.
