In June 2024, Moldova's total state debt increased, compared to the previous month, by 2 billion 451.6 million lei (+2.3%), while in January-June 2024 it increased by 3 billion 037.3 million lei (+2.9%), totaling 107 billion 040.4 million lei. According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, the growth of the total state debt in the first half of 2024 was due to the increase of the internal state debt by 4 billion 146.9 million lei (+10.5%) - from 39 billion 666.1 million lei (as of end-December 2023) to 43 billion 813 million lei (as of end-June 2024). At the same time, the balance of external state debt expressed in lei (MDL) decreased by 1 billion 109.6 million lei (-1.7%) - from 64 billion 337 million lei to 63 billion 227.4 million lei. At the same time, the share of internal state debt in the total amount of Moldova's state debt at the end of June 2024 amounted to 40.9% (39.9% a month earlier), while the share of external state debt - 59.1% (60.1% a month earlier). In general, the share of the total state debt in GDP at the end of June 2024 was estimated at 32.6% against 34.6% at the end of 2023. At the same time, according to preliminary data, the GDP in 2023 amounted to 300.42 billion lei, while at the end of 2024 it is projected at 328 billion lei. The Finance Ministry said that at the end of June 2024, the share of the state debt to be paid within 1 year amounted to 33.6 per cent of the total volume, while the share of the internal state debt in the total volume of the state debt amounted to 40.9 per cent. The share of state debt in a certain currency in the total volume of state debt at the end of June 2024 amounted to 37%, and the share of state debt with variable interest rate in the total volume of state debt at the same date amounted to 51.7%.
