
Moldova intends to integrate into the Single European Energy Market by the end of 2025 – the Ministry of Energy.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Constantin Borosan, announced this while speaking at a seminar organized by the Energy Community Secretariat within the management component of the EU4Energy Project, Phase II. According to the Ministry of Energy, the topics of the discussions were effective policies for the implementation of the Energy Community acquis on the way to Moldova's accession to the European Union, as well as technical assistance needed for the transposition of the tax legislation in the energy sector. Constantin Borosan highlighted the progress made by the authorities in the process of liberalizing the electricity and natural gas market, implementing energy interconnection projects between Moldova and Romania, implementing measures to enhance Moldova's energy security, including through investments in renewable energy. "We remain focused on implementing reforms in the energy sector in all directions: energy interconnection projects, liberalization of the natural gas market, development of renewable energy sources and implementation of energy efficiency measures. Our ultimate goal is integration into the Single European Energy Market by the end of 2025, which means competition and benefits for consumers and businesses," emphasized the Secretary of State of the Energy Ministry. In this context, the officials discussed measures to back Moldova in terms of adjusting the tax legislation to the EU requirements, which is an important factor in the process of uniting the energy markets. It is planned that the adjustment of the tax legislation in line with the EU recommendations will create a favorable investment environment, including the promotion of the commercial exchange of electricity between the Energy Community member states, as well as contribute to the prevention of fraud, double taxation or tax evasion. The EU4Energy initiative, funded by the European Union, is a joint effort between the Energy Community Secretariat, the Council of European Energy Regulators and the International Energy Agency.
