On March 29, Moldova officially launched the construction of the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-voltage transmission line to be built by 2025.
The event was attended by Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, Director of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE) Ruslan Surugiu, Director of the State Enterprise Moldelectrica Sergiu Aparatu. Maia Sandu said that the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-voltage transmission line will connect Moldova's energy system with Romania's energy system, describing the project as one of the most important projects since the country's independence, representing a turning point between the two stages: A Moldova vulnerable to those who can cut off gas or electricity at will, and an independent Moldova, free to choose where to buy electricity, at any time, at the best price and without political pressure and blackmail from outside. President emphasized that since the previous authorities did not want to free Moldova from blackmail and energy dependence, this project was postponed for decades. Only in September 2019, the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line project was approved by the government. The transmission line, whose construction starts in Congaz, will cross 8 districts over a distance of 158 km and will be completed in 2025. Work is also underway on the next 3 interconnectors with Romania and Ukraine: Balti-Suceava, Straseni-Gutinas and Vulcanesti-Artiz. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line will strengthen the country's energy security and cross-border energy transportation between Moldova and Romania. Thus, it will increase the power supply capacity of the consumption node in the central region of the country, including the municipality of Chisinau, and will ensure safe and reliable operation of the entire electric power system of Moldova. The construction of the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line is part of the Moldova Power System Development Project. The cost of the project, financed by the World Bank, is 61 million euros. The transmission line will allow transporting electricity from Romania or other European markets to Chisinau, bypassing Moldavskaya GRES, located in the Transnistrian region and owned by the Russian company Inter RAO. // 29.03.2024 – InfoMarket
