Amcham Moldova proposes to unify the VAT rate on dairy products, bakery products, fruits and vegetables and set it at 8%.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova proposes to introduce the corresponding amendments to the Tax Code when approving the tax policy for 2025. As noted in the organization, today in Moldova a VAT of 8% is applied to some tariff classification codes for goods in this group and it is technically difficult to track the codes by each position separately. However, there are many examples from other countries where a single VAT rate is applied to large categories of food products. For example, in Romania there is a reduced VAT of 9% on the sale of food and drinks intended for human and animal consumption, including cooking ingredients. In Austria, VAT on food, books, pharmaceutical products, passenger transport, newspapers, cultural and entertainment events, hotels is 10%, and in Belgium similar categories of goods are subject to a 6% VAT rate. In the Czech Republic, VAT on food products, medical and pharmaceutical services, passenger transport, newspapers, cultural and entertainment events, hotels is 15%, and on medicines, books and baby food - 10%. In Poland, food products are subject to a VAT rate of 5%, and medicines, medical services, newspapers, goods and services from the Horeca sector - 8%. In Greece, food is taxed at a rate of 13%, in Cyprus – 5%. It is worth noting that a similar appeal was previously initiated by the Association of Foreign Investors in its “white paper”.// 27.03.2024 — InfoMarket.
