Roaming costs in 30 countries belonging to the European Union and the European Economic Area decreased for Moldovan citizens as of January 1, 2024.

Authorities and mobile operators Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom announced this, informing about the entry into force of more favorable tariffs for roaming in Europe, thanks to a voluntary agreement on tariff reduction signed earlier between national operators and a number of European operators. "Now, whether we are on vacation, on a business trip or simply exploring the beauty of Europe, low roaming charges will allow us to stay connected without worrying about exorbitant bills. Thus, those who travel to any of the 30 countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area will benefit from significantly reduced tariffs for roaming services in the EU or will be able to activate various advantageous options, according to the offers of Moldovan operators," Foreign and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu wrote on his social network page. The MFAEI head also praised the participation of national and international operators, who contributed significantly to the realization of this important initiative. "The wait is over. We already have decent internet and voice roaming tariffs. But it will be even better once Roam like at Home is fully implemented. The absence of roaming in the EU means that every citizen or businessman will save hundreds of millions of lei annually," said, for his part, the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dumitru Alaiba. Earlier it was reported that Moldovan citizens will have roaming in the EU at home tariffs, as the principle of roaming like at home will be included in the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU. As a result, Moldovan citizens traveling to the EU will have roaming tariffs like at home. In addition, the new roaming tariffs will encourage EU citizens to travel to Moldova. The draft Decision on the inclusion of roaming services in the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU was adopted by the European Commission on September 1, 2023, in the context of the efforts of European telecom operators and our country to voluntarily reduce roaming tariffs from January 1, 2024. Moldova's inclusion in the EU Roam like at Home zone is one of the key actions of the Moldova-EU Priority Action Plan agreed in June 2023. This plan represents a map for the full implementation of the Free and Comprehensive Trade Area (DCFTA) between the European Union and Moldova and for a deeper integration of RM into the EU single market. // 02.01.2024 - InfoMarket
