The use of antibiotics in beekeeping for prophylactic purposes will be prohibited.
The Government approved amendments to the Law on Beekeeping in order to correctly apply the legal framework regulating these spheres. The proposed amendments are intended to close gaps in the legislation. The main provisions clarify aspects related to the registration of beekeeping activities, commercialization of bee families, placement of hives in the city limits and identification of sources of bee infestation. As previously reported by InfoMarket agency, according to official data, there are currently about 7,800 hives registered in Moldova with a total of 261,000 bee families. Every year, due to poor communication between agricultural producers and beekeepers, there are many cases of mass poisoning of bees. These situations cause huge damage to beekeeping, with losses ranging from 60% to 100% of bee families in the apiary, in a situation where financial losses for each bee family in terms of investments and lost profits can reach up to 6000 lei. Earlier it was reported that the information system BeeProtect.md was developed in Moldova on the initiative of the National Association of Beekeepers of Moldova with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture, associations of agricultural producers, National Agency for Food Safety, e-Governance Agency, with the financial support of USAID under the project "Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity". Its main objective is to reduce the risk of poisoning bees with phytosanitary products. The platform is designed to guarantee communication and mutual information between agricultural producers and beekeepers about crop spraying and placement of beehives near agricultural land. According to the new provisions of the Administrative Code of Moldova, the non-registration of hives by beekeepers, spraying activities by farmers, as well as the entry of incorrect data will entail certain sanctions. // 15.08.2023 – InfoMarket
