The Energy Efficiency Agency will be reorganized and strengthened to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and residential buildings - Ministry of Energy.

Energy Minister Victor Parlicov announced this, noting that currently, 2-3 times more energy is used in Moldova to heat a square meter of space than in developed countries. The head of the Ministry of Energy said this during his participation in the National Conference "Emerging Environmental Challenges and Sustainable Development", organized within the European Green Week. He noted that the state institutions should become examples of energy efficiency, and this fact derives from the aspiration of our country to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, taking into account that about half of the energy consumption in Moldova is caused by buildings. It was emphasized that, moreover, energy efficiency in buildings is not only a directive of the European Union, which has to be transposed into the national legislation, but also a necessity, which more and more citizens have to realize. Victor Parlicov noted that, at the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, the Energy Efficiency Agency will be reorganized and strengthened. "We are working on an innovative model of public finance, together with colleagues from the Ministry of Finance are looking for the optimal formula. We are proposing that the Energy Efficiency Agency become an investor who invests in a building or equipment that will pay for itself through the energy savings it will generate. In other words, the Agency invests in energy efficiency and reimburses the Ministry of Finance for the savings those buildings will have," the Energy Minister said. According to him, along with the management of the fund dedicated to the energy efficiency of public buildings, there should also be a fund for residential energy efficiency, and the Energy Efficiency Agency should develop programs to improve the efficiency of energy consumption. In turn, Environment Minister Rodica Iordanov said that citizens should also realize that a building has a higher market value if it is also energy efficient. At the national conference "Emerging Environmental Challenges and Sustainable Development," officials, business and civil society representatives discussed society's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The European Green Week aims to encourage citizens, communities and authorities to adopt environmentally friendly practices so that economic development and progress does not pollute and harm our planet. // 06.06.2023 – InfoMarket
