The European Union allocated to Moldova the second tranche of macro-financial assistance in the amount of 50 million euros out of a total assistance of 150 million euros.

As noted in the message of the European Commission, in particular, at the beginning of April 2023, the EU transferred 10 million euros to our country in the form of grants, and now it has provided 40 million euros in the form of loans for the urgent needs of the country and the acceleration of reforms. The provision of the second tranche became possible after the European Commission came to the conclusion about the progress that Moldova has made in improving the management of the public sector, in the management of public finances as a result of the approval of a strategy in the relevant area, the strengthening of the rule of law and the approval of a new program for the compensation of criminally obtained property. As InfoMarket agency previously reported, a new EU macro-financial assistance package for Moldova came into force on July 18, 2022 and provides for the provision of 150 million euros, including 120 million euros of concessional loans and 30 million euros of grants. At the same time, the first tranche of 50 million euros was allocated by the European Commission in August last year. April 5 this year Moldova received a grant of 10 million euros from the European Commission as part of the second tranche of macro-financial assistance, and another 40 million euros in the form of loans was allocated now, in early May. Herewith, earlier the European Commission proposed to increase the current macro-financial assistance to Moldova from 150 million to 295 million euros. After the approval of this assistance in two specialized commissions of the European Parliament: on the budget and on international trade, the final vote on the allocation of this assistance to Moldova will take place at the plenary session of the European Parliament in May. It is planned that up to 45 million euros of additional assistance in the amount of 145 million euros will be provided in the form of grants, and up to 100 million euros - in the form of soft loans. The amount is to be paid in two additional installments scheduled for Q3 and Q4 2023, subject to the agreed conditions.// 03.05.2023 – InfoMarket
