Maia Sandu has ordered the revision of the 9 euros fee per passenger charged at Chisinau airport, instructing to reduce it as much as possible.
Moldovan President said this at a press briefing on Monday, noting that Chisinau airport is again owned by the state. The head of state noted that "in 2013, through fictitious transactions, Shor, supported by Plahotniuc, stole the Chisinau International Airport from the citizens by taking it in concession for 49 years". According to Maia Sandu, the state lost 1.6 billion lei as a result of this scheme. President of Moldova said that after 9 years, due to mobilization, tough political struggle and complaints to the courts, the Chisinau International Airport was finally returned under state ownership, that is, to the citizens. In this context, President urged the state authorities to ensure the checking of the received goods, to document the detected irregularities and to review the 9 euros fee per passenger, reducing it as much as possible. She also urged the law enforcement authorities to ensure that all those involved in the theft were punished in line with the law. Maia Sandu urged the Public Property Agency, the airport administration, to ensure optimal operation from now on, so that citizens could use more routes to more destinations at affordable prices. She said Chisinau airport is not a mere state asset, stressing that the capital's airport must become a regional hub, providing the necessary infrastructure for Moldova to connect more to the European economic space. "And the justice authorities must ensure that all those involved in this embezzlement are punished according to the law. I am convinced that in the coming years we will succeed to build a European justice system and a European infrastructure - this is the path we have chosen together," said the President of the Republic of Moldova. // 03.04.2023 - InfoMarket.
