Moldova should become a member of the European Union by 2030 - Maia Sandu.
This was stated by the President of the country, speaking at the plenary session of the Parliament on Friday. She noted that now Moldova has a real chance to become a full member of the European family. “We have the support of the EU countries. The Moldovans have chosen the European path, but how quickly we get there depends on all of us,” the president said. In her opinion, Moldova has no other way of normal development, except for European integration, since the states that have become members of the European Union over the past two decades, today ensure the well-being and security of their citizens, ensure justice, good salaries and pensions. Maia Sandu called on politicians and citizens to recognize that Moldova has no other path for normal development, except for the path of European integration, since the CIS, the Customs Union, the Eurasian Economic Union and other options have not led to anything good. “We have chosen this path - European Moldova, not because it is easy, but because it is the only chance for Moldovans to live well, in peace, in their own home. This is, in fact, the only way to ensure the survival of Moldova as a free and strong country,” the president said. According to her, some politicians lied to the people in order to buy voters or steal the country. “Some continue to lie even now. And people continue to leave for the European Union in search of a better life. Because none of these lies represent a path for Moldova. We no longer want Moldovans to flee to the European Union, we want the European Union to be at home,” the head of state said. She urged politicians to end disagreements, unite society so that all citizens have a good life, European incomes, they live in comfortable villages and cities. “I call on all political forces to put EU accession above narrow interests and unconditionally support this path. Of course, we can and must argue, discuss the content and form of reforms, but our mission, we all must build a European life here for citizens,” Maia Sandu stressed. According to her, no state in the world can dictate to Moldova what to do and how. “It is for the sake of the future of children that we want to become a European state. But this is not enough for Moldova to join the European Union. We must bring the European Union into our homes, build a European Moldova. These are not just beautiful words, this goal means specific things for people. These are jobs that provide a decent life for all families, as we see in European countries. This is social justice, where pensioners have a good old age. It means having money for medicine when you are sick, being able to take your kids on vacation, living with confidence in the future. It means to be equal among the powerful countries of the world. This means earning our place in the European Union. And this is our only way to a good life. Any other way is a lie. Moldovans do not want to live in poverty and fear of war. Only in the European Union can we live in prosperity, tranquility and peace,” the head of state said. She noted that some citizens came to the conclusion that it is impossible to enter the European Union. “I am convinced that the European Moldova is not an illusion. And together with the parliament, with the government, with all of you, we will do this. Because, no matter how disappointed we are, I know for sure that we have not stopped believing in our country. And I know that the Europeanization of Moldova can unite all of us, whatever our ethnicity, whatever our mother tongue. This can unite us for the natural - the future of children and the future of our country," Maia Sandu stressed. // 17.03.2023 — InfoMarket
