British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly announced this at a press conference in Chisinau with Foreign Affairs Minister Nicu Popescu, noting that these funds are intended to support economic and governance reforms in Moldova. According to him, the new aid is in addition to the £12 million provided by the UK last year to Moldova to improve transparency, protect against cyber-attacks, and fight corruption. James Cleverly stated that the additional aid provided by Great Britain will allow the Moldovan authorities to continue activities to receive Ukrainian refugees and carry out various reforms. He noted that the events in Ukraine have drawn the attention of British residents to the vulnerability of independent European states such as Moldova, which after Ukraine suffered the most from the war. The British Foreign Secretary noted the Moldovan authorities' contribution to managing the unprecedented refugee crisis, noting that 1 million refugees from Ukraine have transited through our country, and 100,000 citizens have decided to stay in Moldova. James Cleverly noted that today the partnership between Moldova and Great Britain is stronger than ever. "I want to assure the brave and courageous people of Moldova that Britain is with you and will help you become a safer and more prosperous nation.
