The Commission of the European Parliament approved the doubling of quotas for duty-free export of 7 categories of agricultural products from Moldova to the EU.

Member of the European Parliament, chairman of the European Parliament delegation to the Parliamentary Committee on the Association of the European Union - Moldova Siegfried Mureșan wrote about this on his page on the social network. He noted that, in particular, the Commission on International Trade of the European Parliament approved today the proposal of the European Commission to double export quotas for 7 categories of goods from Moldova, for which tariff quotas are still applied when entering the EU market. The final vote on this proposal will be held at the plenary meeting of the European Parliament on an emergency basis, most likely next week. Siegfried Mureșan recalled that the war in Ukraine had seriously affected Moldovan farmers, who can no longer export their products to eastern countries. “Therefore, I have repeatedly called on the European Parliament to liberalize the export of agricultural products from Moldova to the EU market. I asked for this, including in the resolution on Moldova, which the European Parliament adopted on May 5. At the beginning of June, the European Commission proposed doubling export quotas for a year (i.e. the volume of goods that are not subject to customs duties) for 7 categories of Moldovan goods that are still subject to tariff quotas (tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, cherries, plums and grape juice). Of these, Moldova exported plums and grapes in large quantities to Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. This proposal was adopted today by a specialized committee of the European Parliament, and the final vote will be held on an emergency basis in the plenary session of the Parliament, most likely next week,” wrote Siegfried Mureșan. As InfoMarket agency reported earlier, it is planned that the quotas for duty-free export of Moldova to the EU will increase from 15,000 to 40,000 tons for plums, from 20,000 to 58,000 tons for grapes, from 40,000 to 80,000 tons for apples, for tomatoes - from 2 thousand to 4 thousand tons, for garlic - from 220 to 440 tons, for cherries - from 1.5 thousand to 3 thousand tons, and for grape juice - from 0.5 thousand to 1 thousand tons. // 30.06.2022 — InfoMarket
