Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed a decree appointing Natalia Gavrilita as candidate for Prime Minister.

The head of state instructed her to create a government team and prepare a program for the new Cabinet. Maia Sandu noted that she signed a decree on the appointment of Natalia Gavrilita as Prime Minister of Moldova after consultations with parliamentary factions held today. “Mrs. Gavrilita has two weeks to form a team and develop a government program, which she will present to parliament,” said the President of the Republic of Moldova. The head of state noted that she is fully confident that the appointed Prime Minister will come with a team of incorruptible professionals, and in a maximum of two weeks there will be a new government in Moldova, which will mean a new beginning for the country. It should be noted that in the course of consultations with the President of Moldova, the faction of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) nominated its own MP Natalia Gavrilitsa for the post of Prime Minister. At the same time, representatives of the Electoral Bloc of Communists and Socialists faction did not take part in consultations with the President, and representatives of the SOR Party faction stated during consultations that they would not nominate their candidate for this post, realizing that the ruling PAS party, which has a parliamentary majority, has its own candidate for the post of head of government and the votes required to approve its Cabinet. As the head of the PAS faction, Mihai Popsoi, said at a press conference after consultations with the head of state, the decision to nominate Natalia Gavrilita for Prime Minister was adopted unanimously yesterday at a meeting of the PAS faction. Mihai Popsoi noted that Natalia Gavrilita is the most suitable candidate for the post of Prime Minister, since she has the necessary experience in the work of the government; she has knowledge in the economic and tax fields. “We are confident that in the current difficult conditions, thanks to our experience and the support of Natalia Gavrilita's party and the government formed by her, it will be possible not only to improve the situation, but also to achieve noticeable socio-economic progress,” said Mihai Popsoi. He noted that it is too early to talk about possible new members of the government, admitting that it will include some of the people who were previously on the list of candidates for ministers when Maia Sandu nominated Natalia Gavrilita for Prime Minister in February. However, according to Popsoi, there will be new names on this list, including people outside the PAS, non-partisan candidates. Natalia Gavrilita is the Vice Chairman of PAS. She served as the Minister of Finance of Moldova in the government of Maia Sandu from June 8, 2019 until mid-November 2019, when the entire Cabinet was dismissed. For 3 years she worked in London as an economist at the Global Fund for Innovation. In 2013-2015, Natalia Gavrilita worked as the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education. She also headed the Department of Policy and Macroeconomic Development of the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the Department of Policy and Coordination of Foreign Aid of the State Chancellery. Throughout her career, she worked as an international expert at the World Bank, UNICEF and other international organizations. // 30.07.2021 – InfoMarket
