The Ministry of Agriculture asks the government to allocate 47 million lei from the Reserve Fund to partially cover the damage caused to farmers by unfavorable weather conditions.
This was stated at a briefing on Thursday by Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju, noting that the department had prepared a corresponding petition for the Cabinet. According to the minister, these funds are necessary to partially compensate for the damage caused to rural infrastructure and crops by bad weather in recent years, in particular, heavy rains with hail, dust storms, etc. Ion Perju said that in general, bad weather damaged 29 settlements from 14 regions of the country. At the same time, Edinet, Criuleni, Drochia, Falesti and Ialoveni districts suffered the most. In total, 3,000 hectares of crops of corn, sunflower, wheat, barley, orchards, vegetables and berries were destroyed. Material damage at the moment is 35 million lei, of which more than 30 million is damage to crops. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture said that it is extremely important for agrarians to receive assistance to partially compensate for their losses, since many agricultural producers have not yet recovered from the drought that occurred in the summer of 2020. The Minister noted that, as planned, 12 million lei out of 47 million lei requested from the government will be used for the purchase of an additional batch of anti-hail missiles.// 10.06.2021 — InfoMarket
