The new IMF Program will play a crucial role in strengthening Moldova’s macroeconomic stability and sustainability – the NBM

This was stated by Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), during a meeting between an official Moldovan delegation and Alina Iancu, Head of the IMF Mission to Moldova, as part of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings taking place in Washington. The dialogue focused on Moldova’s macroeconomic and financial outlook in the context of escalating geopolitical conflicts and global trade tensions. The discussions covered the structural reform program, monetary policy, and anti-inflationary measures, as well as the effective governance of the National Bank of Moldova and the stability of the banking sector—key elements of a resilient economy capable of withstanding contemporary challenges. During the discussions, Anca Dragu emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong partnership with the IMF in the context of the Moldovan authorities’ request to launch a new three-year program with the Fund without a financial component. “A new program with the IMF will play a decisive role in strengthening the country’s macroeconomic stability and resilience, serving as an anchor of confidence for structural reforms and the state’s economic policy, and thereby supporting Moldova’s progress on the path to European integration,” emphasized the head of the National Bank of Moldova. Anca Dragu noted the NBM’s firm commitment to continuing reforms aimed at strengthening financial stability, enhancing economic resilience, and supporting the country’s integration into the European Union. According to her, in this regard, IMF technical assistance to the National Bank of Moldova will play an important role in strengthening institutional capacity in key areas of the reform program.
