The total public debt of Moldova in October 2024, compared to the previous month, decreased by 420.1 million lei (-0.4%), amounting to 109 billion 505.9 million lei
At the same time, in January-October of this year, it increased by 5 billion 502.8 million lei (+5.4%). It should be noted that at the end of September, the total public debt of Moldova amounted to 109 billion 926 million lei, and this figure is its historical maximum. According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, the growth of the total public debt in January-October 2024 was due to the increase in the domestic public debt by 1 billion 341 million lei (+3.4%) - from 39 billion 666.1 million lei (at the end of December 2023) to 41 billion 007.1 million lei (at the end of October 2024), as well as the balance of external public debt, expressed in lei, by 4 billion 161.8 million lei (+6.5%) - from 64 billion 337 million to 68 billion 498.8 million lei. Herewith, the share of domestic public debt in the total amount of Moldova's public debt at the end of October 2024 amounted to 37.4% (a month earlier - 38.5%), and the share of external public debt - 62.6% (61.5%). In general, the share of total public debt in GDP at the end of October 2024 was estimated at 34.2%, compared to 34.6% at the end of 2023. Herewith, according to preliminary data, GDP in 2023 amounted to 300.46 billion lei, and by the end of 2024 it is projected at 320.6 billion lei. The Ministry of Finance noted that at the end of October 2024, the share of public debt payable within 1 year amounted to 29.8% of the total volume, the share of domestic public debt in the total public debt - 37.4%. The share of public debt in a certain currency in the total public debt at the end of October 2024 amounted to 39.4%, and the share of public debt with a variable interest rate in the total public debt as of the same date - 50.6%.
