In general, in January-April 2024, the total public debt of Moldova increased by 2 billion 176 million lei (+2.1%). According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, the increase in total public debt in January-April 2024 was due to an increase in domestic public debt by 2 billion 825.5 million lei (+7.1%) - from 39 billion 666.1 million lei (at the end of December 2023) to 42 billion 491.6 million lei (at the end of April 2024). At the same time, the balance of external public debt, expressed in lei, decreased by 649.5 million lei (-1%) - from 64 billion 337 million to 63 billion 687.5 million lei. Herewith, the share of internal public debt in the total amount of public debt of Moldova at the end of April 2024 was 40% (a month earlier - 39.8%), and the share of external public debt was 60% (60.2%). In general, the share of total public debt in GDP at the end of April 2024 is estimated at 32.4% against 34.6% at the end of 2023. Meanwhile, according to preliminary data, GDP in 2023 amounted to 300.42 billion lei, and by the end of 2024 it is projected at 328 billion lei. The Ministry of Finance noted that at the end of April 2024, the share of government debt payable within 1 year amounted to 32.7% of the total volume, the share of domestic government debt in the total volume of government debt was 40%. The share of government debt in a certain currency in the total volume of government debt at the end of April 2024 was 37.7%, and the share of government debt with a variable interest rate in the total volume of government debt as of the same date was 51.5%.
