Today the citizens of Moldova can buy 17% less products than a year ago - Veaceslav Ionita.

The economic expert wrote about it in his analytical material, pointing out that the annual inflation in June 2022 reached 31.8%, which exceeds the level of 2000, when the annual inflation amounted to 31.2%. He draws attention to the fact that Moldova has not yet exhausted the increase in prices for energy resources and there are clear upward trends in various services, which indicates a high risk of reaching the anti-record of 1999. Veaceslav Ionita also notes that usually in June in Moldova the food prices decrease, but this year an increase by 0.6% was registered. The last time when prices in Moldova rose in June was in 2011 and 2003. Currently, the population of Moldova can buy 17% less food than last year. The anti-record precedent was set in 1999, when the purchasing power in terms of food fell by 15.6%. According to the expert, if we take into account the fact that wages in nominal terms increased by 21.6% in 1999 and now we have an estimated growth of 12%, this year the real purchasing power in terms of food products has reached its lowest level since 1995. // 12.07.2022 - InfoMarket
