
If in 2021 the volume of loans was growing, especially in the banking sector, now there is a break, especially in the non-banking sector, where lending is stagnating - Veaceslav Ionita.
The economic expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives said that by the end of April 2022, the amount of loans to the citizens of Moldova reached 33 billion lei, whereas in the first 4 months of this year, loans worth 1.3 billion lei were taken from banks and non-banking institutions and in the entire year of 2021 – 31.7 billion lei. The expert pointed out that when speaking about credits, the loans taken from banks, non-banking sector, from relatives/friends and at interest from individuals should be taken into account. According to the expert, at present the citizens of Moldova apply for loans to banks and financial institutions 2 times less frequently. If last year people officially borrowed almost 700 million lei per month, now they take 325 million lei. Of the total volume of loans at the end of April 2022 (33 billion lei), 23.8 billion lei was in the banking sector and 9.2 billion lei in the non-banking sector. According to the results of a survey conducted in May 2022 by IDIS Viitorul together with the Institute of Political Science and International Relations Ion I.C. Brătianu and CBS Research, the percentage of citizens who said they have credits decreased from 28.9% in 2021 to 25% as of the end of May 2022. Another 15% (25% in 2021) indicated that they have credits from at least two sources. About 20% said they have loans from banks, 10.9% from non-banks, 9% from relatives and friends, and 1.5% from usurers. According to the estimation of the economic expert, to date, the total debt of individuals through all sources of credit amounts to 41.7 billion lei: 33% of official credits and 8.7% of unofficial credits. Of the total amount, 23.8 billion lei are bank loans, 9.2 billion lei - non-bank loans, 7.2 billion lei - loans of relatives and friends and 1.5 billion lei - loans of usurers. Veaceslav Ionita specified that, according to May polls, the situation of those who have overdue credits is getting worse. In December, 32.5% of citizens of our country faced the problem of repayment of loans, while in May - 30.3%. Speaking about people with loans from three sources, the expert believes that these people are in a critical situation. The biggest difficulty is the repayment of loans of usurers. This was the answer of 43.8% of respondents who have loans.
