According to the Ministry of Finance's data, taking into account the 2026 GDP forecast, the share of public sector debt in GDP as of March 31, 2026, amounted to 38.6%, representing a decrease of 0.6 percentage points compared to the end of 2025, but an increase of 2.6 percentage points compared to the same period in 2025. The increase in public debt in the first quarter of 2026 was due to an increase in government debt by 9 billion 844.3 million lei and in the debt of public sector enterprises by 1 billion 222.6 million lei.
