The EBRD will provide Moldova with approximately 344 million euros to rehabilitate a number of strategically important roads
Specifically, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy approved the start of negotiations and the signing of the relevant loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The agreement, drafted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, is aimed at implementing the sixth road rehabilitation project in Moldova. As part of this project, there are plans to rehabilitate and expand the R7 (R14 – Drochia – Costești – Romanian border) and M3 (Chișinău – Comrat – Giurgiulești – Romanian border) roads. The project is part of Moldova’s efforts toward European integration, as these roads are part of the TEN-T core network and are of strategic importance for regional transport connectivity and the country’s integration into the European transport area. In addition to the financing provided under the EBRD loan, the project will receive an EU grant of up to 11.4 million euros from the Neighborhood Investment Platform, a grant of 7.7 million euros through the Connecting Europe Facility, and a government contribution of up to 34.2 million euros, funded through the EU Growth Plan for Moldova.
