The World Bank will sign a new Partnership Framework Agreement with Moldova for 2027–2031, which will support the country's priorities of reducing poverty, stimulating economic growth, and aligning the country with EU standards
This was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Robert Saum, World Bank Regional Director for Eastern Europe, during which they discussed programs implemented in Moldova with World Bank support, as well as reform priorities in the context of Moldova's European integration process. The parties discussed the status of ongoing projects, including those aimed at modernizing the agrifood sector and adapting it to EU standards. In this context, a plant for processing animal by-products not intended for human consumption, built near Criuleni as part of the "Competitive Agriculture in Moldova" project, was mentioned. The new infrastructure will contribute to improved food safety, environmental protection, and the reduction of public health risks. Energy sector projects were also discussed, including preparations for the construction of a new 250 MW cogeneration plant and the completion of the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line. These projects were noted to be important for strengthening energy security and modernizing national infrastructure. Another topic of discussion was tax reform and the necessary measures to strengthen the sustainability of public finances. The parties discussed the technical assistance the World Bank could provide in assessing the impact of reforms, the phased implementation of tax changes, and the analysis of compensatory measures to ensure they contribute to an increase in real incomes. During the meeting, the officials also touched on digitalization, focusing on strengthening cybersecurity capacity and combating telephone and online fraud. The parties also discussed the preparation of a new Framework Partnership Agreement with Moldova for 2027–2031, which will support the shared priorities of reducing poverty, stimulating economic growth, and aligning the country with EU standards.// 30.06.2026 — InfoMarket
