The United States has provided Moldova with a feasibility study for the 400 kV Strășeni–Gutinaș power line, for the construction of which they are providing a $130 million grant
Nick Pietrowicz, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, presented this document to Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. The Moldovan Prime Minister noted that the strategic partnership with the U.S. is yielding concrete results for Moldova’s energy security, and that the feasibility study for the Liberty Line project—which calls for the construction of the Strășeni–Gutinaș power line—is an important step toward establishing a new energy connection with the European Union and strengthening the resilience of Moldova’s power system. This power line will be built with grant funding from the U.S. government, which has allocated a $130 million grant, and will become the third high-voltage interconnection between Moldova and the European power system via Romania, following the Vulcănești–Chișinău and Bălți–Suceava power line projects. The project will help strengthen energy security, increase opportunities for electricity imports and exports, and accelerate Moldova’s integration into the European energy market. According to the study presented, the Strășeni–Gutinaș kV power line within Moldova will be approximately 70 km long and will pass through 25 settlements in the Strășeni, Nisporeni, Călărași, and Hîncești districts. The project will help increase the transmission capacity of electricity between Moldova and the ENTSO-E area, improving the reliability of energy supply and promoting the development of a competitive energy market. During the discussions, other issues of mutual interest were also raised, including recent developments in the energy sector, the development of electricity transmission infrastructure, investments in new energy generation and storage capacity, as well as opportunities to strengthen Moldovan-American cooperation in the field of energy security. // 19.06.2026 — InfoMarket.
