
The European Commission will support Moldova's efforts to strengthen energy sustainability and bring the country into line with EU energy legislation
European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen announced this during a meeting with Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu at the official meeting of the EU Council on Transport, Telecommunications, and Energy in Luxembourg. According to the Ministry of Energy, Dorin Junghietu held a series of high-level meetings with European officials and colleagues from EU countries during the event. Discussions focused on continuing energy reforms, strengthening regional energy security, and accelerating Moldova's integration into the European energy market. In particular, during meetings with Dan Jørgensen and Director-General of the Directorate-General for Energy Ditte Juul Jørgensen, the main reforms in Moldova's energy sector and the priorities for implementing the Growth Plan for Moldova were discussed, with an emphasis on energy efficiency, diversification of energy sources, and acceleration of infrastructure modernization projects. Dan Jørgensen confirmed the European Commission's full support for the Moldovan government's efforts to strengthen energy sustainability and bring the country into line with EU energy legislation. The Moldovan Minister of Energy also met with Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Energy Olha Yukhymchuk. The parties discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the field of energy security, preparations for the heating season, and expanding cooperation in the field of electricity interconnections and energy supply in the context of frequent Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure of the neighboring country. During a meeting with Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, the parties discussed cooperation within the framework of the Central and South-Eastern Europe Energy Connectivity (CESEC) High Level Group, emphasizing the importance of regional interconnections and measures to reduce energy prices in South-Eastern Europe. During talks with Belgian Energy Minister Mathieu Bihet, an agreement was reached to intensify cooperation between the energy ministries of the two countries and to exchange experience in the development of renewable energy sources. Danish Minister of Energy, Climate and Utilities Lars Aagaard, who chaired the Council meeting, welcomed Moldova's progress in complying with European energy legislation and improving the sustainability of the national energy system during his talks with Dorin Junghietu. During the exchange of views with Swedish Minister of Energy Ebba Busch and Finnish Minister of Climate and Environment Sari Multala, the idea of further support for efforts in these areas was also raised. Also in Luxembourg, Dorin Junghietu met with Matteo Rivellini, Head of the European Investment Bank's Eastern Neighbourhood Department.
