Moldelectrica, Energocom and Metalferos state companies may be granted the status of tax monopoly.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization announced the beginning of the procedure of preparing a decision on granting the status of tax monopoly to the joint stock companies Metalferos and Energocom, as well as to the state-owned company Moldelectrica. The interested parties can send their opinions on this matter to the ministry till June 2. Let us remind you that, according to the amendments to the Law on Entrepreneurship and Enterprises, introduced in late 2023, the government may grant the status of tax monopoly to an enterprise or a group of enterprises to carry out exclusively economic activities related to goods, services, a group of goods or a group of services in order to generate revenues for the state. The monopoly status will be granted only to a legal entity with fully or predominantly state capital. Activities in this area will be coordinated by the National Commission on Tax Monopoly, which will consist of representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Finance, Competition Council and 2 representatives of civil society from the economic sphere. In particular, it will determine the necessity to establish a tax monopoly for certain types of economic activities; analyze and assess the impact of granting tax monopoly status; monitor and evaluate the economic sector in which an enterprise or a group of enterprises, which has been granted tax monopoly status, is active and report to the Government, as well as propose to the Government to withdraw tax monopoly status from an enterprise or a group of enterprises, which has been granted tax monopoly status. Tax monopoly status does not relieve an enterprise of the obligation to hold permits as prescribed by law. // 24.05.2024 - InfoMarket.
