From January 1, 2021, Moldovagaz and Gazprom have extended for another year the existing contracts for natural gas supply to Moldova and gas transit.
Moldovagaz press service reported this, noting that the relevant documents were approved at a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the enterprise and signed in the prescribed manner. Moldovagaz is a joint Moldovan-Russian joint-stock company established by Gazprom, the government of Moldova and the Ministry of Industry of Transnistria. As InfoMarket reported earlier, according to preliminary data, in 2020 the average price of gas purchased by Moldovagaz from Gazprom was $149.01 per 1,000 cubic meters, and more than 1.12 billion cubic meters of fuel were purchased for consumers on the right bank of the Dniester for $209.64 million. At the same time, the total cost of gas purchased from the Russian gas holding in 2020 could be $42 million lower if it were bought in the market at free prices on one of the leading gas exchanges in Europe. Thanks to the current formula of the contract in force with Gazprom, the cost of Russian natural gas for Moldova is calculated on a quarterly basis using a European formula that takes into account the price of gas sold by Gazprom to non-CIS countries over the past 9 months. In addition, when calculating the cost of gas for Moldova, it is taken into account the dynamics of the gas oil price and fuel oil price for the 9 months immediately preceding the quarter of gas supply. // 04.01.2021 - InfoMarket.
