In Moldova, over 300 tons of used refrigerators and washing machines have been collected under the EcoVoucher program for household appliances
This was announced by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu during a visit to the PRO REP household appliance warehouse, a national authorized system for the collective collection of electrical and electronic waste and a partner of the EcoVoucher program, which the Ministry of Energy implements through the National Center for Sustainable Energy. PRO REP, an association formed by approximately 70 companies importing household appliances, has already collected approximately 500 tons of electrical and electronic waste, which is approximately 40% of the 2026 target. The equipment is exported for recycling, promoting the development of a circular economy and reducing environmental impact. "The EcoVoucher program brings double benefits to Moldova. On the one hand, it helps low-income families replace old, energy-intensive appliances with modern, energy-efficient equipment. "We also ensure the collection and proper recycling of obsolete appliances, as well as the return of valuable materials to economic circulation. In this way, we reduce energy consumption, household bills, and the amount of waste ending up in landfills," stated the Minister of Energy. Since the launch of the EcoVoucher program, more than 42,000 families have received financing for up to 70% of the cost of new energy-efficient household appliances. In the most recent period alone, ending on June 7, nearly 600 vouchers were used to purchase 337 washing machines and 255 refrigerators. By replacing old and energy-intensive appliances with modern models, the EcoVoucher program helps reduce electricity consumption, lower utility bills, and strengthen Moldova's energy security. // 09.06.2026 - InfoMarket
