Roaming tariffs with EU countries will be gradually reduced for Moldovan citizens and in maximum 5 years they will be completely canceled
In particular, this is stipulated by the draft Law on regulation of roaming tariffs with EU countries, approved by Government. The document stipulates a gradual reduction of tariffs until their complete abolition in maximum 5 years. The draft law introduces a restriction of roaming tariffs for users from Moldova traveling to the EU countries. Gradually, the tariffs will be completely canceled, applying the of “Roam like at home” principle, which allows to use mobile communication services without additional costs in the EU countries. The document provides for a reduction in tariffs for all types of electronic communication services - calls, SMS messages and mobile data traffic. It is estimated that consumers will save from 30% to 70% of current roaming costs, depending on the type of services used. The bill obliges providers to correctly and in real time inform consumers about roaming costs and possible additional costs. Clear mechanisms for dispute resolution in case of billing errors are also defined. Measures are also provided to incentivize investments in electronic communications infrastructure, including 4G and 5G networks. Thus, the Moldovan providers will be able to prepare the networks for the increased consumption, abolish roaming tariffs and offer services in line with the European standards. Government recalled that from January 1, 2024, the roaming tariffs between Moldova and the EU countries were reduced due to the agreement signed between Moldova and the EU. Mobile operators from Moldova, the EU and the European Economic Area voluntarily agreed to offer more favorable offers to end users, including free packages within monthly subscriptions. //13.03.2025 - InfoMarket.
