
The IMF kept the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 at the level of 2.6%, and for 2025 – reduced it by 1 p.p. - from 4.8% to 3.7%
This follows from the new October “World Economic Outlook” (WEO) published by the International Monetary Fund. Herewith, at the end of the nearest 5 years, in 2029, the Fund experts forecast, as well as earlier, 5% GDP growth for Moldova. The IMF analysts have also kept the inflation forecast for this year and next year at the level of 5%. At the same time, they slightly changed the forecast of Moldova's current account deficit, expecting that in 2024 it will amount to 11.2% of GDP, in 2025 - 10.7%, and in 2029 it is expected to decrease to 8.5% of GDP. It should be noted that within the previous, April IMF World Economic Outlook (WEO), the Fund reduced the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 by 1.7 p.p., from 4.3% to 2.6%, noting that it expects economic growth of 4.8% in 2025 and 5% in 2029. The Fund's experts forecasted that inflation in Moldova will reach 5% in 2024 and 2025, and expected that Moldova's current account deficit will amount to 11.5% of GDP in 2024, 10.3% in 2025 and 8.3% of GDP in 2029. It should be noted that the World Bank raised the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 by 0.6 p.p. - from 2.2% to 2.8%. At the same time, it maintained the forecast of this indicator for Moldova in 2025 and 2026 at the level of 3.9% and 4.5%, respectively. In its previous Economic Update for Moldova of June 2024, the World Bank reduced the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 by 2 p.p. - from 4.2% to 2.2%, and in 2025 - by 0.2 p.p. - from 4.1% to 3.9%, having forecasted economic growth of 4.5% in our country in 2026. Fitch Ratings experts forecast for Moldova 2.4% GDP growth in 2024, and in 2025 - 3.6%. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova's GDP in the first half of 2024 amounted to 142 billion 238 million lei and grew in real terms by 2.2%, compared to the same period in 2023.
